Gyu-Kaku is a Japanese BBQ chain that has locations across the US. The Brookline location opened fairly recently. In this type of restaurant, you grill meat over a table grill. The meat is sliced thin so that you can cook it fairly quickly.
This restaurant is somewhat pricey, but the ambiance and quality of meat make up for the price. The booths are set up to be private and cozy.

Meat choices |
You can either order from some set menus, which include a variety of meats and veggies, or you can choose to order a la carte. We weren't interested in all of the items in the set menus, so we decided to try a few selections.

House sake |
We also ordered the house unfiltered sake, which was actually tasty and very reasonably priced, as far as sake goes. I believe these were bottled exclusively for the Gyu-Kaku brand.

Sauces. Pretty tasty! |

Foil with mushroom mix, zucchini, and marinated beef. |
The meats were nice and tender and the ones that we ordered with marinades were delicious. The vegetables in general were overpriced. For example, the zucchini pictured above was $4. For comparison, the beef pictured next to it was only $6. Thus, the pricing seemed somewhat random.

Grilling food! |
Overall, I highly recommend Gyu-Kaku. The food is tasty and the ambiance is great.
