Restaurant: Bisuteki Tokyo Japanese Steakouse, Cambridge, MA

Right off of Memorial Drive in Cambridge is Bisuteki Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse, one of the few Teppanyaki Steak Houses in the Boston area. Teppanyaki is a japanese style of cooking that is done on a large solid metal cooking surface. (These restaurants are often referred to as Hibachi Steak Houses in the US, though Hibachi is another distinct style of Japanese cooking.)

Restaurant interior.
Bisuteki Tokyo is technically a hotel restaurant, as it is located in the lobby of the Courtyard Marriot. As such, the interior is always very clean and modern.

For teppanyaki, Bisuteki Tokyo offers a lunch special and a normal dinner set menu. Both menus include soup, the main entree, and rice. The dinner menu includes a salad and larger meat portions but is significantly more expensive. For customers with kids, there's a special entree that comes with any adult dinner menu portion, though I did not get the specific details of this offer.

House mushroom soup.

The best part of the Teppanyaki experience is the show, and the chefs at Bisuteki Tokyo are as talented and entertaining as the ones I've seen at other similar restaurants.

The food is okay, but not great. The house mushroom soup is a little oversalted but otherwise plain. The meats were okay, though they weren't cooked with any special sauces. The dipping sauces (ginger or mustard sauce) are tasty and add zing to the meats. I recommend upgrading to the fried rice.

Vegetables
I personally preferred that the vegetables were cooked with very little oil and seasoning, but for customers who don't like vegetables, they may be too plain.

Bean sprouts (veggie side)
The restaurant offers two dessert options: cheesecake or fried ice cream. For some reason, the server didn't offer these to us until we asked about desserts. The cheesecake was good, but most likely made off site. (Is cheesecake ever not good?)

Cheesecake
Overall, Bisuteki Tokyo is a great place to try out--if not for the food, for the teppanyaki experience. The food is plain, but for the lunch prices, it's totally worth it.
